Andrea Krupp

Andrea Krupp is a painter and printmaker from Philadelphia.
She has respect for tradition and an eye for quality
that comes through in her work.
Overlapping washes of color create occasional ridges of line that
offer a subtle indication of the subject's interior life. Her style combines the impressionistic quality of watercolor with precise description.

The colors of an urban palette are reflected in Krupp's watercolors:
the iron oxides in brick and stucco, deep warm blacks of asphalt, complex grays of cement, and the indescribable patina of dirt and age.  Nature exists in the earth pigments that she uses to portray the emblematic shapes of our city: the profile of a row home, water towers, trestles and overpasses.

In addition to her palette, her carefully considered choice of handmade and vintage paper provides a complex textural canvas that influences the tone and character of each painting.

Andrea Krupp has exhibited her artwork in galleries in the United States and Europe. Her paintings are held in private collections both here and abroad, and she is also represented in the permanent collection of the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania.  Her artists' books are collected privately as well as institutionally in the Special Collections departments of The University of Pennsylvania, the University of Vermont, and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where she received her education.
