Derek Sterkel

Derek Sterkel began his art education in Houston, Texas under the instruction of Tommy Fitzpatrick, a graduate of the Yale masters program with a focus on concept and process in painting, and Carlos Landa, a traditional figurative artist who is strongly rooted in tradition and technical training.  After receiving his first solo exhibition in 2000, Derek left Texas to receive further education at the Laguna College of Art & Design in traditional painting and drawing.

Derek has since been in many group shows, a solo exhibition in Fullerton, California and has shown at The Ironworks, Hilo, Hawaii.
He continues to show with Whitney Gallery in Laguna Beach.

The artist lives and works in Costa Mesa, California.
