Sarah J. Webber Sarah J. Webber was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1958 and spent her early years there after college as a professional singer. In 1987, she relocated west to Jackson Hole, WY, a favorite family spot. There she became interested in oil painting after meeting some of the local artists. Always artistic, and fond of drawing since excelling in her high school art classes, Sarah began taking workshops and painting outdoors. She studied with landscape painters Scott Christensen and Matt Smith, while exploring portraiture at Central Wyoming College. In the 1990s Sarah relocated to Scottsdale, AZ, and furthered her art studies at Scottsdale Art School which included workshops with Kevin MacPherson and attending classes drawing models from life. In 2001, after spending nearly 10 years working in the art business, she began to explore the idea of painting full time. She started placing small oil paintings of barnyard animals, a subject matter she loves, in galleries. Her little paintings were soon successful and Sarah's work began to be represented in galleries throughout the west. Her subjects include cows, horses, burros, hens, bears and sometimes cats. Her style is a bold, painterly yet realistic interpretation of the animal with a focus on expression, color and texture. The artists who have influenced her style include deceased masters William Herbert Dunton, Frank Tenney Johnson, English painter Arnesby Brown and living artists Peggi Kroll-Roberts and her close friend, landscape painter Glenn Dean, who taught her the importance of design and how to look at things. Sarah has been featured in many special group exhibitions and one woman shows, including the Scottsdale Artists School Beaux Art Bash and the "American Miniatures" show at Settlers West Galleries in Tucson, AZ.
