MARINE PAINTINGS
Growing up in a California beach town and being an “artistic kid,” my first art instruction was in a small summer class sponsored by the local woman’s club in Corona del Mar. The two memories I keep from that time are the smell of kneaded eraser, which is now always linked to the joy of Art, and a field trip we took to Little Corona to sketch on the beach. The beach has always been an obvious and natural place for an artist to work, and since those days more than fifty years ago, I have returned many times to the ocean to paint. This book is a collection of small sketches and the resulting paintings that I have done over the years, not necessarily in the manner of the old “Pacific Coast Highway School,” but in my own vision.
